01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
Behind its traditional noren curtains in the office towers of Nihombashi Muromachi, Rikyuan has earned a dedicated following for its pale, elegant Sarashina-style soba alongside a generous roster of teishoku set meals. A perennial favourite here is the natto soba. Slender, refreshing noodles arrive crowned with an egg yolk, nori, and peppery daikon radish sprouts, mixed thoroughly into the house broth. Edo-style tsuyu with a clean, sharp finish cuts through the richness of the toppings and frames the crisp texture of the noodles, drawing regulars back throughout every season.
Sarashina Textures and Steaming Broths
Cold soba choices feature classic mori and zaru, alongside tenzaru served with crisp, freshly fried tempura, and kamo seiro paired with a rich, savoury dipping broth. Soba portions are presented with modest refinement, so diners seeking a heartier meal often opt for a large serving. When the weather turns chilly, comfort comes in simple bowls of hot kake soba laced with deep soy broth, or nabeyaki udon simmering in an earthenware pot with mochi rice cakes, kamaboko fish cakes, and tempura prawns.
Sukiyaki and Miso-Glazed Pork on the Upper Floor
While noodles and rice bowls take centre stage on the 1 floor and in the basement, the 2 floor is dedicated to substantial set meals. Highlights include the signature Rikyuan Teishoku with its individual tabletop sukiyaki pot, fragrant pork miso-yaki, sashimi assortments, and seasonal grilled fish that provide steady fuel through the workday. Soba is also complemented by a sweet-and-savoury katsudon, making it an appealing stop when cravings lean firmly toward rice bowls.
From Quick Lunches to Evening Soba Drinks
Lunchtime moves briskly with efficient service and high turnover, maintaining a calm atmosphere that suits solo diners nicely. From late afternoon onward, the space shifts naturally into a relaxed spot for soba-mae drinking, where diners can enjoy beer and light savoury fare before finishing the night with a freshly dipped basket of cold noodles. Payments accept PayPay, and table reservations can be arranged on inquiry.
